What is veganism?

What are the benefits and disadvantages of a vegan diet?
Vegan diets tend to be rich in many nutrients, low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and also higher in dietary fiber. But there are many nutrients that those following a vegan diet oftentimes do not consume enough of. If you're not careful, following a vegan diet can cause you to develop some deficiencies in vitamin D, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, and zinc. These deficiencies can impact your body in a variety of ways, possibly causing you to have a weakened immune system, a higher risk of experiencing bone fractures, high blood pressure, rashes, or fatigue.
How can someone be vegan and follow an anti-diet?
Any diet that involves entirely eliminating multiple food groups can be difficult to follow and it doesn't work for everyone.
Moreover, the vegan community focuses on the benefit of losing weight way more than the benefits of health this lifestyle is providing them with. To a point that people with larger built and bodies may be shamed of not losing weight by following a vegan diet by the community.
However, cutting off several types of food from your daily intake is not healthy and counteracts the basis of the vegan lifestyle. The vegan lifestyle is not the best diet out there; the best diet is the one that makes you comfortable while still keeping you healthy and properly nourished.
If you’re someone who is convinced by the vegan diet ideologies and would like to follow them but wants to avoid health complications, here is what Hitaf recommends:
1. Focus on what you like.
Instead of focusing on what cannot eat, focus on what you like to eat and try to add them to your food regimen.
2. Be mindful.
In essence, mindful eating means being fully attentive to your food — as you buy, prepare, serve, and consume it. Be aware of the cues your body is sending you. Your body knows what it needs, you just need to listen to it.
Do sports activities that you like. Even though veganism and yoga go hand in hand, you do not have to force yourself into activities you are not passionate about.
4. No calorie-counting and weight-watching.
Hitaf absolutely refutes the idea of counting the calories you consume per day or watching each half a kilo of weight you lose. You should love your body and how it looks because skinny does not mean healthy. Be kinder to yourself and listen to your intuition.
Following a vegan lifestyle should not be filled with restrictions and aiming for perfection. Being happy in your body and your choices is the best lifestyle.
