Eid El-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Now that fasting is over, it is time to reflect on our routines and reassess them. Anyone who fasted during Ramadan would have experienced some bodily changes no matter how careful they were to stay hydrated and mindful of their bodies during Iftar and Suhur. However, the transition that began with the Eid celebrations needs to be carefully managed in the upcoming days. After fasting for a month, one is bound to crave delicious food. Nutrition expert, Faisal Al Shawa, is here to give you 4 tips on how to get back on track after the month of Ramadan and the Eid celebrations.
Tip #1 - Adopt An Addition Mindset
Just like the name says, you need to add food to your daily intake. We don’t mean just any kind of food; you need to add vegetables and fruits as much as possible to your diet. During the month of Ramadan, and especially the Eid holidays, we may tend to skip out on these essential nutrients that we need to enhance our mind’s and body’s capabilities. Vegetables and fruits contain a wide range of vitamins and antioxidants essential for a healthy mind and body. After a week of sugar overload, your body definitely needs the nutrients from a salad. “Start thinking on how to add more fruits, vegetables, and salads into your routine,” says Faisal.
Tip #2 - Remove Problem Foods from Sight
It’s really important to manage your environment. When you remove unhealthy or problem foods from your line of sight or out of reach, you remove the temptation of reaching into the fridge and consuming unhealthy food. Instead, substitute those unhealthy snacks with healthy ones and notice how in the long run you will start making better food choices. You can up your intake of dry fruits, seeds, and good fats to help your body replenish.
Tip #3 - Change Your Exercise Routine
It is totally normal during Ramadan to lower the amount of time you exercise and even stop exercising completely. It is important to get or change up your exercise routine after Ramadan. Set your goals and go back to working on your fittest and best self. Ease yourself into an exercise regime after the month of fasting is over.
Tip #4 - Start NOW!
Feeling demotivated or lazy after the Eid celebrations is fine and normal; however, the key is not to delay. So start now rather than tomorrow! Exchange bad habits for good healthy ones and work towards achieving your goals with a positive mindset. Remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
